Homemade is often cheaper per pound of ingredients; the trade-off is time (shop, chop, cook, portion), fridge or freezer space, a supplement plan to be complete and balanced, and a short life (cooked portions keep about 3–4 days refrigerated). Loyal Saints keeps meat and organs first, is never cooked (high pressure processed, then freeze-dried), is AAFCO complete and balanced, stores in the pantry up to 24 months unopened, and serves in about ten seconds a bowl.
- Why a 14 oz bag costs what it costs: one 14 oz bag carries the calories of about 3.2 lb of fresh-cooked dog food (fresh-cooked food is about 69% water; freeze-drying removes the water, not the food). Compare by the bowl or by the day, not by the pound. Kibble is already dry, so this comparison is against fresh or home-cooked food, not kibble.
