Switching questions

How do I switch without upsetting her stomach?

Slowly. A quarter of the bowl for three days, then half for three, then the rest. Any sudden food change can loosen things up; a seven-day transition avoids nearly all of it.

How much do I actually feed?

Less than you think, by volume. Our feeding calculator takes her weight and gives you the exact daily amount and the daily cost. Do not scoop by eye — that is where the cost surprises come from.

Do I need to rehydrate it?

No, but most dogs prefer it. Warm water, a minute to soften, and it doubles as a way to get more fluid into a dog who does not drink much.

Can I use it as a topper instead?

Yes, and many people start there. About a quarter of her calories from our food is a common topper ratio — the calculator prices that option too.

What if I feed a large or a very small dog?

Both are covered. Large breeds have a guide on the quarter-bowl approach, and small dogs should know that the 14oz bag works out roughly 36% cheaper per day than the 5oz for the same dog.
