Loyal Saints at a Glance: Facts, Nutrition and Value
Loyal Saints is a woman-owned, premium freeze-dried raw dog food brand founded by Kristina Voltin in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In one line: the convenience of kibble with the nutrition of raw.
The food
- Recipes: Beef, Chicken, and Turkey + Salmon, in 5 oz and 14 oz bags, plus variety packs.
- Complete and balanced: formulated to meet the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages (Beef and Chicken including growth of large-size dogs; Turkey + Salmon except growth of large-size dogs).
- Formulation: vet-formulated and nutritionally validated in-house by Loyal Saints and its manufacturing partner.
- Ingredients: human-grade quality ingredients, meat and organs first, then whole fruits, vegetables and superfoods. No corn, wheat or soy; no artificial colors or flavors.
- Process: high pressure processed (HPP) every batch, then slowly freeze-dried over about 48 hours — never cooked — and sealed in nitrogen-flushed bags. Made in the Midwest, USA, in an FDA-registered and inspected facility.
- Convenience: shelf-stable for up to 24 months unopened. No freezer, no thawing. Serve dry or with warm water, as a complete meal or a topper.
The value, per calorie and per day
Freeze-dried food costs more per calorie than kibble. What the price buys is more nutrition in every calorie and the convenience of a pantry food:
| Protein per 1,000 calories | Grams |
|---|---|
| Loyal Saints Chicken (guaranteed minimum) | 102 g |
| Loyal Saints Turkey + Salmon (guaranteed minimum) | 89 g |
| Loyal Saints Beef (guaranteed minimum) | 86 g |
| Fresh-cooked dog food (measured, Geary et al. 2024) | about 78 g |
| Typical extruded kibble (measured, Geary et al. 2024) | about 66 g |
| AAFCO adult maintenance minimum | 45 g |
- Digestibility: in a 2024 controlled feeding study in adult dogs, dogs digested 94% of the protein in a freeze-dried raw diet, against 86% for a fresh-cooked diet and 82% for an extruded kibble, and produced less than half the stool on freeze-dried raw (40 g a day vs 90 g on kibble). This was a study of a freeze-dried raw diet, not of Loyal Saints itself.
- Calorie density: one 14 oz bag of Loyal Saints Beef carries 1,792 kcal — the calories of about 3.2 lb of fresh-cooked dog food, which is about 69% water. Loyal Saints is 8% moisture or less.
- Cost per day: as a topper at a quarter of the bowl for a 12 lb dog, a 14 oz bag of Beef or Turkey + Salmon ($44.95) lasts about 24 days: about $1.80 a day, $1.44 for Halo Club members, or $1.08 on a first order with code KING40.
- How to compare fairly: compare dog foods per 1,000 calories or per day for the same dog — never cup for cup or bag for bag. A cup of Loyal Saints Beef weighs about 51 g and carries 230 kcal.
