Most picky dogs are not picky. They are being offered something that does not smell like food, or they have learned that refusing produces something better.
When it is not fussiness at all
A dog that suddenly stops eating after being reliable is a different problem from one that has always been selective. Dental pain, nausea and illness all present as refusal.

Aroma is most of the decision
Dogs commit to food largely on smell. Heavily processed kibble is sprayed with palatants for exactly this reason — the aroma is applied to the outside rather than produced by the ingredients.
Freeze-dried raw smells of what it is. Some dogs take to that immediately; others need warm water to bring it forward for a few days.
Treats are where most diets quietly fail
A careful bowl and an uncontrolled treat jar cancel out. Most commercial treats carry several proteins, wheat and flavorings, any of which can be the thing you are trying to isolate.
During any trial, treats should be single-ingredient and the same protein as the food, or absent.
The habit you may have taught
If refusing a meal has ever produced a topper, a hand-feed or something better, that is a trained behavior rather than a preference.
Breaking it is unglamorous: down for fifteen minutes, then up, nothing until the next meal. Healthy adults do not starve themselves — puppies, diabetics and unwell dogs are exceptions, so ask your vet first.
Why our Chicken needs more cups
Chicken is 200 calories per cup against 230 for Beef and Turkey with Salmon, because chicken is leaner and fat carries roughly nine calories per gram against four for protein.
Fewer calories in the same volume means more cups for the same energy. It is on our own panel and we would rather point at it than hope nobody checks.
The quarter-bowl rule for bigger dogs
Fed as a complete diet, a large dog goes through freeze-dried raw quickly, and it is expensive. We would rather say that than have you discover it in week one.
Fed as about 25% of the bowl, real raw goes into every meal at a cost that stays sane: about $4.04 a day for a 50 lb dog, $5.48 for a 75 lb dog. Replace a quarter of the existing food rather than adding on top.
Single protein, and why it matters practically
