How long does a bag of freeze-dried dog food last?
4 min read · Loyal Saints

Quick answer
At a quarter of the bowl, a 14 oz bag lasts about 9 days for a 50 lb dog and 6 days for an 80 lb dog. As a complete meal it lasts 2.2 days for a 50 lb dog and 1.6 days for an 80 lb dog.

This is the number that surprises people, so here it is plainly. As a large dog’s complete diet, a 14 oz bag is measured in days, not weeks.
The Fluff Factor. A cup measures space, not weight. A cup of Loyal Saints Beef weighs about 51 g — a cup of dense kibble often weighs twice that — because the water is gone and what is left is light and airy. Big on volume, dense on nutrition: gram for gram it carries about 4.5 calories. Why cup-for-cup comparisons mislead. A 14 oz bag holds roughly 7.8 cups — a lot of volume, not much weight.
Fed as a quarter of the bowl, which is how most large-breed owners use it, the same bag stretches to between one and two weeks depending on your dog.

Storage. Freeze-dried raw is shelf-stable for up to 24 months unopened unopened and needs no refrigeration. Once open, reseal it and keep it dry — the enemy is moisture, not time.
That shelf life is the practical advantage over fresh-delivery food: no freezer space, no ice packs, nothing spoiling if you travel.
Feeding amounts come from the Daily Serving Guidelines printed on the bag (Beef and Turkey + Salmon; Chicken takes slightly more cups). Costs use the current 14 oz price with Halo Club membership applied. Swap Loyal Saints in for the same share of your dog’s current food and adjust to body condition — you should be able to feel, but not see, your dog’s ribs. Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 14 oz bag last a month?
Not for a large dog fed a complete meal — it is a matter of days. At a quarter of the bowl it lasts one to two weeks.
How many cups are in a 14 oz bag?
About 7.8 cups. Freeze-dried food is light and airy, so the volume is much greater than the weight suggests — a cup measures space, not weight.
