Is freeze-dried raw too expensive for a big dog?

Quick answer

Fed as a complete meal to a large dog, yes — for most households. An 80 lb dog costs $23.08 a day, about $701.54 a month. Fed as a quarter of the bowl it is $5.77 a day, and that is the version most large-breed owners stay on.

We would rather answer this honestly than sell you a bag you resent. For an 80 lb dog, feeding Loyal Saints as a complete meal costs about $701.54 a month. For a 120 lb dog it is closer to $982.16. Those are luxury numbers and we are not going to dress them up.

The version that works is a quarter of the bowl: $5.77 a day for an 80 lb dog, $8.08 for a 120 lb dog. Real raw nutrition in every meal, alongside the food you already buy.

This is not a discount trick. It is what our own reviewers arrived at independently — the people using it as a topper are happy, and the ones who tried to replace the whole bowl wrote about the price.

What it costs at each size

80 lb dog

$5.77/day at a quarter · $23.08 full

100 lb dog

$6.92/day at a quarter · $27.69 full

120 lb dog

$8.08/day at a quarter · $32.31 full

Why it costs more

You are not paying for water. Freeze-drying removes it, so what is left is food.

Why freeze-dried costs more than kibble. Kibble is cooked at high heat and priced per ton. Freeze-drying is slow, specialised, and preserves what heat destroys. You are also paying for ingredients you can name, and for AAFCO completeness reached through whole foods rather than a synthetic premix.

None of that makes it affordable as a complete diet for a giant breed. It does make a quarter of the bowl a genuinely good trade.

Feeding amounts come from the Daily Serving Guidelines printed on the bag. Costs use the current 14 oz price with Halo Club membership applied. Adjust to body condition — you should be able to feel, but not see, your dog's ribs.
